Around 125 scholarships are awarded annually, covering tuition fees, maintenance allowance, airfare, visa, and health insurance.

- No confirmed admission offer from a recognised foreign university
- Already studying or having completed studies abroad under any other scholarship or own funds
- Bachelor's level courses not covered
- Courses related to Indian culture, heritage, history, or social studies research not covered
- Already received benefits under National Overseas Scholarship earlier
- More than two children from the same family already availing the scholarship
